Making Disciples of Oral Learners
Do we have to memorize the story word for word or can we just memorize the picture or event

We are working with 12 or more different languages when we teach the stories. The question has come up' "do we have to memorize the story word for word"? In general I am saying, no you don't have to memorize it word for word if you can be consistent and accurate each time you teach it to a group. Actually we don't want to use the term memorize but rather internalize which means not only head knowledge but heart experience. However it is not easy to translate that term into many of the different languages we are working with.
One reason why at this point we decided to stick closely to memorizing the crafted stories is, because the different language groups tend to compare their stories and will notice right away if another group is saying things differently from their own.
Another observation we made is, the better people have memorized / internalized the stories, the more spiritual observations (treasures) they discover and they are also much more at ease when they tell the story to others.
